Hefei High-Tech Industry Development Zone was ranked 6th in the latest rankings of 147 hi-tech zones across China, moving up one notch from last year, according to a list recently released by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The list also showed the zone outshone the rest in sustainable development capacity. It took the fourth place in terms of capacity for upgrading industries and improving industrial structure, and sixth when it came to knowledge creation and technological innovation.
As the largest high tech industrial hub in East China’s Anhui province, Hefei High-Tech Industry Development Zone has focused on innovation-driven growth through building platforms, attracting talent, developing technology and raising capital over the past few years. As a result, it climbed to the sixth spot this year from 12th in 2012.
Four industries -household appliances, information technology, photovoltaic energy and the automobile and equipment manufacturing - registered more than 30.0 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) in output, accounting for 70.6 percent of the zone’s total.
Remarkably, the zone is known for joining in launching the world’s first quantum science experimental satellite”Mozi” and making the world’s first photon quantum computer.
